The problem. Retailers want a more efficient way to handle returned items so that they can lower processing costs, keep their products in circulation, and reduce their carbon footprint. Consumers want discounted rates on their favorite brands and to shop in a environmentally friendly way so that they can save money on their purchases and feel good about supporting ‘green’ companies.
How does this product solve it? Hafback is a marketplace that enables retailers to resell ‘in process returns’ without shipping them to their warehouse, benefitting both consumers and retailers. Consumers find new-in-box items at deep discounts from brands they trust. Retailers save reverse logistics shipping costs, lower transportation emissions, and reduce the number of products that end up in landfill. Key features include a branded return portal for retailers and the ability for consumers to request notifications when products they love are in stock.
My role in it. I was the design lead on Hafback’s site as a member of Platform Venture Studio’s product team. In collaboration with the founder, Chief Design/Product Officer, and engineering team, we embraced a fast development and early release approach to gain insights for iteration and next steps. I designed a simple UI kit and component library to support dynamic UI/UX design and facilitate a smooth transition to rapid low-code development.
A bit about the visuals. Hafback had an existing brand color palette with primary colors of black, yellow, and orange. To honor this history I used black as the primary color, creating great visual impact without competing with retailer brands. For typography, I used two UI typefaces with a nice range of fonts for hierarchy: an expressive sans serif for headers (Archivo), and a highly readable sans serif for body text (Inter). To enhance UI communication and reduce cognitive load, I used an icon set (Bootstrap) in buttons and alongside instructional text.
The tools I used. Figma.
My employer. I worked on this project for Platform Venture Studio; Chief Design/Product Officer, Lissette Arias.
