My design journey.
I’m a California native who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I earned a degree in psychology from UC Santa Barbara and have more than 18 years of design experience — 12 of which focused on UI/UX, product, and brand design. I chose a career in design for a few reasons:
1) I have always loved creative expression, especially visual art.
2) I'm empathic by nature and driven to understand and help others.
3) I find human cognition and behavior fascinating.
Combining visual art, empathy, and cognitive behavioral concepts with the power of design enables designers like me to solve challenging problems, help people reach their goals, and even spark a little delight in user experiences. I love what I do!
At its core, my work is driven by a desire to solve problems and help users reach their goals, making “subject matter” secondary to crafting creative solutions. I believe this user-centric mindset enables me to design for a diverse span of industries.
My approach.
My top priority for every project is clarity and delivering quick value to the users I serve. To do this, I rely on three core principles:
1) Design Thinking. I’m devoted to this methodology: understand user needs, develop ideas to address them, test solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
2) Simplicity. Prioritizing function over form, I favor concise copy and clean, hierarchical design to streamline complex products and reduce cognitive load.
3) Accessibility. I strive to meet WCAG AA standards, helping the products I work on achieve inclusivity and advanced accessibility.
Technically speaking.
I’m a people person at heart. Whether it’s collaborating with teams, interviewing users, mentoring, or catching up at the watercooler, I love connecting with others. I’m equally happy immersed in beautiful design systems, flow diagrams, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes. (I've actually dreamt about being inside my design files, walking around in dream VR — no joke!).
My go-to tools include Figma for product design and Adobe Creative Cloud for brand materials.
Outside of work.
I enjoy watching baseball, running, and hiking with my dogs (and more baseball). Things I value: transparency, accountability, and levity … I do love to laugh!
